| LAKE TESTING Lake water quality testing has been completed for the year. Data can be accessed on URI’s WATER SHED WATCH web site at www.uri. edu/ce/wq/ww/. Bacteria results are as follows. The limit for safe recreational waters is 61 May=2 July=7.5 Oct=less than 1 Thanks for the North Stonington Citizens Land Alliance for sponsoring us in the Watershed Watch Program @ URI. LAKE LOWERING The lake will be lowered approximately 3 feet starting in early November. CULVERT REPAIR The culvert (36 inch diameter and 40 feet long) that carries Ashwillet Brook under the road into the South end of the Lake has been replaced, special thanks to Rob Anderson, Tim Crandall and Richard Evans who donated equipment and labor. The Tax District paid for materials. (Your tax $ at work) See attached pictures of the .project. |
The Annual Blue Lake Association was held at the Evans residence at 1 pm October 27th 2007. Discussion Items: William Hixson summarized the bacterial counts taken for the lake over the past year. All readings were well below the safe limit of 61 counts per deciliter and the readings were equivalent to lakes within the area. These data suggest that Blue Lake contains minimal to no bacterial contamination. Success in weed control from the lake draw down in 2006/2007 was variable. The method relies on establishing a hard freeze for some duration prior to the spring thaw and winter came relatively late last year. Weed Day which was organized by Lisa Beatman and Jeanne Morgan was held on June 9th. While the weather was somewhat uncooperative there was a good showing by many neighbors to brainstorm ideas and put those ideas to action. Everyone felt this event should be an annual tradition going forward. A format with a work party day followed by a social gathering on the following day was suggested and endorsed. Discussion of the various mechanical methods being evaluated for weed control included the use of theWeedrazor which appears to be particularly promising as a tool which can be used from the shoreline as well as a boat. Major Motions Considered and Passed: 1) To use Association funds to secure two more Weedrazors ($135 each) for use on work party days as well as borrowing to use on shoreline properties- Motion passed 2) To continue of the Blue Lake Association Website for 2007/2008- (bluelakeassociation.org) - Motion passed 3) To conduct lake draw down this winter- Motion passed In addition, planning for the second Annual Weed Day was endorsed and likely to occur around the beginning of June. Election of Officers: Jeanne Morgan was elected as Secretary John O'Donnell, Tim Crandall, and Richard Evans continue to serve as President, Vice-President, and Treasurer, respectively Dues ($20) were collected from Association members The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm |

| A lot of weeds this year |
| LAKE STATUS The lake draw down valve has been closed and the recent heavy rainfall has brought the lake up to the summer time level. The hoped for deep freeze with the lake at a low level never happened this year. |
